I agree with that...
You should always at your child's side whereever they will go, like in school, going to mall, playing outside... If you want you can hire a good nanny for them, but be sure she is trustful enough to handle your kids.
Always check the security in your village...

If your're in your house, be sure that all the door is close and don't let anyone to come in...you can put censor in your house if you wish
Hope this one could help you...

One additional point on this is if they have a cell phone and are kidnapped, they can contact home/911. Most criminals probably don't expect "young" kids to know how or to possess a cellphone.

Should be a given.

What for?

You should also teach your children to check in by phone at specific intervals. This is very important, because many kids get into trouble without realizing it at first. If you teach your child to call you ever 1:30, for example, then you would know if they went missing right away.

Scott, that is a great tip. I make my kids check in every hour when they are out. They all have cell phones so they never have an excuse not to know.
My 6 yr old even has one for when he goes out because he can always get in touch with me this way, if he walks across the street to his friends house he can call me if anything. I always walk him across though, he is not out of my site ever, he is autistic.

Cell phones are good for calling 911 and home, Keep these numbers programmed in, also cell phones are good for tracking because the company keeps records which come in handy. for incoming.outgoing calls and where the last call was placed.

Now to the person who asked money for what.. it always good to have your children have money if they are out, one for taxi fair, what if they find themselves i n a situation they need a ride and they can't find you. how are they going to get to a safe place, = money for taxi fair can get them home, to a police station or hospital.

I agree with having them check in at regular intervals too. I also think you should call them at random times to make sure they are ok, even if they ask you not to. Tell them you trust them, you just don;t trust everyone else.

I do that with my younger kids, I am giving my older ones alittle more room to grow and learn. I am very lucky because I have good kids, I take the credit for that though because I teach them to be wary yet keep on moving ahead with life.

also want to add, pocket money can be for payphone too if no cell phone.

I taught my daughter to scream as loud as she can if anyone strange aproach her in wrong way. She got a set of lungs too. I also taught her to kick them where they live if they try to grab her.
